"A very successfull Calaf, excellently sung. Alagna’s voice in absolute top form, developed in the most positive sense"
EXCERPT (from German) : " Roberto Alagna is remarkably successful in the change of repertoire. His voice is currently in absolute top form. After his really spectacular Otello came a very convincing Calaf. Time did not stopped since his House debut as Nermorino in 1992 and made the voice change: 26 years are a full chapter in a life, the singer has matured and his voice developed in the most positive sense. The artist started the transition slowly, not always without obstacles and we can hear that this singer has proven his worth. Stylistically, this Calaf was excellently sung. The voice acquired a good, lightly baritonal color, a lyrical Dolcezza which could further be refined. The piani came beautifully and "Nessun dorma" was stormy acclaimed by the audience, whereas his "Non piangere Liù" was almost even more beautiful. A very successful debut!"

"In an impressive vocal shape, Alagna melted the ice-covered Turandot with his attractive tone. Valiant and sure High C.”
EXCERPT (from German): "Audience’s favorite, Roberto Alagna presented himself in an impressive vocal shape for his first Viennese Calaf. At first wanting to almost rely– maybe a little too much- on the almost naked attractiveness of his timbre, he does not take long to refine his performance, gaining finesse in dynamics and phrasing. He toped the enigmas’scene off with a valiant and secured high C, almost without even batting an eye; In "Nessun dorma", he attacks a little low, but is recovering perfectly and flawlessly. But above all, he manages to convey all the passion required from him by Marelli's goodwill in this double embodiment of the composer himself (Puccini) and the pretender, both of whom wanting to conquer Turandot in their own way."

« Great enthusiasm for Alagna: impressive top notes, brightness of the tone, perfect characterization" by Thomas Gabler for Kronenzeitung
EXCERPT (from German): "The most impressive achievement came from Roberto Alagna who was performing as Calaf for the first time in the House and amazed his Viennese fans: his poignant calls to the “ice-covered” princess were captivating, his top notes and the brightness of his tenor tone in the famous Nessun dorma were stunning, all in a perfect characterization of the protagonist Calaf.
