"Roberto Alagna appears in AMAZING FORM ... SOLAR TIMBRE, VELVETTED LEGATO, SOLID GRAVE, HIGH LIGHTS ALWAYS POWERFUL and ELEGANT without the slightest tension ... All the qualities of the tenor appear intact from the first aria ... Perfect and confounding diction that one savours with ecstasy, a genuine pleasure to say as much as to sing ... Angelic spun tones, dreamy pianissimos and perfect phrasing ... Sublime arias that unleash applause that is fully justified ... a great actor, who knows how to live everything he sings from the inside ... He charms us with his usual strength of conviction and that authenticity of expression that has always delighted us ... Five generous encores, including a poignant 'Notre père' of his own composition, delivered 'a capella', to close this concert that is both popular and refined".
"The sold-out recital by Roberto Alagna, patron of the 2023 season of the Opéra de Tour - Grand Théâtre, was held in the Auditorium François 1er, to enable as many people as possible to attend the event, with the Orchestre symphonique Région Centre-Val de Loire / Tours on the vast stage, conducted of course by Kaurent Campellone.
In dazzling form, Roberto Alagna, who had celebrated his 60th birthday a few days earlier, appeared, performing no less than 9 arias (interspersed with the inevitable Overtures), followed by ... five encores, a generosity for which he is renowned. Solar timbre, velvety legato, solid bass, high notes as powerful and elegant as ever... and without the slightest tension. All the tenor's qualities appear intact from the very first aria he sings, the rare "Le bruit des chants s'éteint", taken from Ernest Reyer's no less rare "Sigurd", because if there is one common passion shared by our "national tenor" and Laurent Campellone, it is the love and defence of the French repertoire, and all the rarities and nuggets of that repertoire waiting to be resurrected.
Among Alagna's hobbyhorses are the two arias that follow - "Pays merveilleux" and "Ô Souverain, ô juge, ô père" - taken from two works that are just as rarely performed (Meyerbeer's "L'Africaine" and Massenet's "Le Cid"); in both of which we can taste with ecstasy his perfect and confounding diction, for in him there has always been, beyond the pleasure of singing, an authentic pleasure of saying. And at the end of these two sublime arias, which he works on note for note, with angelic sonorities, dreamy that he works note by note with angelic spun tones, dreamy pianissimi and perfect phrasing, they unleash applause that is amply justified. He is also a great actor, and he knows how to live everything he sings from the inside, as in the aria "Je ne suis pas un impie" (I am not a godless man) from his brother David Alagna's opera "Le Dernier jour d'un condamné" (The Last Day of a Condemned Man), delivered as if in ecstasy, eyes raised to heaven, completely inhabited...This did not prevent him from interacting with the audience in the front rows, as is his wont, for we also know his love and closeness to his fans, who have flocked from the six corners of France... to be "there"!After the French repertoire, it's the repertoire of his parents' native Italy, from which he has inherited the Sicilian sunshine in his vocal chords - even though he was born in [Clichy-sous-Bois], which he also likes to point out.And it was to 'verismo' that he turned with excerpts from Leoncavallo's 'Pagliacci' ('No! Pagliaccio non son!'), Giordano's 'Andrea Chénier' ('Si fui soldato') and the same Giordano's 'Fedora' ('Amor ti vieta'), in which he had no difficulty in seducing, with his usual strength of conviction and that authenticity of expression that has always delighted us.He brings the evening to a close with 'Niun mi tema' (Verdi's 'Otello'), ending his desperate singing with the most beautiful piano effect, which knots the throats and shakes the soul.
But the party's not over yet, and there are five encore numbers, first three tunes from Spanish 'Zarzuelas', then a Neapolitan song, and finally a poignant 'Notre père', composed by the singer and performed 'a capella', to close this concert that is both popular and refined. [...] "

"THE CONCERT WOWS THE AUDIENCE. Roberto Alagna will show all the power of his voice, but also an understanding, even a total connivance with maestro Laurent Campellone.
"The 2023 patron of the Tours Opera, Roberto Alagna, was in concert at the Palais des Congrès in Tour last Tuesday for a prestigious gala. The gala was able to go ahead despite a strike notice issued by the orchestra's musicians, who are calling for budgetary adjustments and, above all, full-time permanent contracts for the 55 artists. The concert was well received by the audience. [...] For the occasion, Roberto Alagna was surrounded by the musicians of the Orchestre symphonique Région Centre val de Loire/Tours conducted by Laurent Campellone, the director of the Opéra de Tours - Grand Théâtre. Moving on from Reyer to Meyerbeer, Massenet, Verdi, Leoncavallo and many others, Roberto Alagna will be showing off the full power of his voice, as well as his understanding and total connivance with maestro Laurent Campellone".
